kinoatlas
kinoatlas.de shows which movies are being displayed in cinemas close to you (at least if you live in Berlin).
This is achieved by presenting the city’s cinemas on a Google Map. A click on their icon brings up the list of movies and show times. Clicks on movie titles or cinema names return further links to review pages.
Specific show times can be stored in a personal list, to select the potentially interesting shows. Each selection list also has a unique URL, which can then be shared with friends who might want to join the movie session.
I had the idea for this mashup several years back, when I moved to Madrid. This city is big and has quite a number of cinemas, but browsing through a list of several pages of cinemas and their related programmes was always a pain, as I usually had no clue from the cinema name or address if this might be close to my place or on the other side of the city.
Now I’m in Berlin, but the problem remains the same. And although even Google now lists movies and their programmes, they still do it the old list-centered way, and you still have to browse through several pages of complete daily programmes.
So here is kinoatlas.de, and it solves most of my problems. While a first working prototype has been out since the start of the year, I’ve done a lot of fixes and clean-up during the last months, and now I’m sufficiently happy to share this mashup with the world.
While I have some ideas for new features or bugfixes, this won’t probably happen in the near future, as other ideas have been waiting for some time now. Still, I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments, and new ideas are always very welcome.
